The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and renowned singer Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Face, have been recognized as part of the ‘100 Most Notable Peace Icons in Africa’. This esteemed list, which includes various prominent Africans, was unveiled by the organizers on their website this Wednesday, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Among the notable Nigerians featured on this prestigious list are former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, renowned entrepreneur Tony Elumelu, Mohammed Abdullahi, Alhaji Imaan Ibrahim, business tycoon Femi Otedola, philanthropist Dr. Stephen Akintayo, Farouk Khailann, and Amina Mohammed, the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations.

Distinguished clergyman Pastor Jerry Eze, Dr. Daniel Moses, humanitarian Mohammed Dewji, Mesfin Tasew Bekele, AIGP Aishatu Baju, Gabriel Aduda, Tein Jack-Rich, Tosin Eniolorunda, Dr. Oluwatosin Olatujoye, and Nollywood sensation Rita Dominic have also earned their places on this remarkable list.

Ambassador Kinsley Amafibe, the Project Director for Africa in the ‘100 Most Notable Peace Icons in Africa’, extended congratulations to all the Nigerians featured. He explained that these peace icons hail from diverse backgrounds, each using their unique talents, positions, and resources to foster and advance peace across the African continent.

Amafibe emphasized that the list is by no means exhaustive, as there are other Africans who have contributed significantly to peace-building across the continent, and they will be acknowledged and celebrated in subsequent editions of this peace-building honor.

“These 100 most notable peace icons in Africa come from diverse backgrounds and have different life experiences, but they all share a deep commitment to peace and non-violence,” stated Amafibe. “They have shown us that peace is achievable, and that each person can make a difference in building a better world.”

He emphasized that these individuals have inspired countless people worldwide through their leadership, activism, and humanitarian efforts, all working towards a more just and peaceful future.

“For the past three decades, our world has teetered on the brink of global conflict, and the pursuit of peace has given rise to some of the most remarkable individuals of our time,” Amafibe noted.

The honorees in this list are individuals who have devoted their lives to promoting peace and justice in their communities, countries, and the world at large. Their work is a testament to the transformative power of peace-building and the positive impact it has on the world.

“We hope that their example will continue to inspire individuals and organizations around the world to work towards a more peaceful and just world for all,” Amafibe concluded.

The ‘100 Most Notable Peace Icons in Africa’ list includes a diverse range of individuals, from political leaders who work tirelessly to resolve conflicts and promote diplomacy to activists who use their influence and resources to combat injustice and inequality. It also features humanitarians who provide aid and relief during times of unrest, as well as artists who utilize their talents to promote peace and unity.

In addition, the list encompasses real estate stakeholders who collaborate with humanitarians to provide safe housing for the homeless, agricultural experts dedicated to ensuring Africa’s self-sufficiency in food production, media personalities committed to disseminating accurate information, and financial experts who contribute to the growth of peace.

Among the recipients from across the continent are renowned human rights activist and African Affairs commentator P.L.O. Lumumba, President of Rwanda Paul Kagame, Seyi Vodi, Hajiya Salamatu Muktah, Josephine Nwaeze, Ayo Animashaun, and Prof. Stevens Azaiki.
